Doug Briney, HeeHaw HoneysDoug explains his deep connection to our military: “If you’ve been to one of my shows, you know I come from a long line of military and I have a deep and personal connection to them. Go all the way back to the Revolutionary War, I have a great, great, great, great (honestly, I’m not sure how many greats there are) grandfather who fought to help win our freedom from the British. There is even a statue in his honor in the Boston area. WWII, two of my Uncles on my dads side served, one in the European Theater with the army and one in the Burma, China, India Theater as the Calvary. My dad served in the Korean War as a mechanic.”

“On my mothers side, my grandfather served in WWII as well. He was stationed in a little place called Attu Island in the Aleutian Chain. Attu, is the only US soil to have ever been taken and held by enemy forces. The Japanese held it for two years. My grandfather served as a supply clerk there. Currently, I have a cousin who is retired USAF yet still works with them as a civil servant, a nephew in the USMC and my oldest son, whom I am very proud of, serves in the USAF. So for me, the military is who I choose to support. They have done so much for us and I only wish I could do more for them.”

Doug Briney, Lulu RomanGreat Land Veteran Services is working to create a military community center/community in the Funny River Alaska area with the goals of helping military veterans by bringing practical tools to fight against suicide, homelessness, re-integration struggles, and societal discrimination. We specialize in peer mentorship, vocational re-training, family life mentorship, and recreational opportunities.

Always willing to lend a helping hand, Doug Briney and his well-traveled band, The Mercenaries, kicked off CMA Fest with their own set, and as the house band for country music legends, T. Graham Brown, Lulu Roman, Irlene Mandrell, John Berry, Bobby Lewis, Linda Davis and many more, at “Country For a Cause.” The event was held on Sunday, June 7th at Nashville Palace, to benefit Pearl Point and other cancer charities.

Doug Briney, Bobby Lewis“It was really a special night,” said Doug. “I have admired these artists for so long, and to have the honor of sharing the stage with them, is really an unbelievable thrill. The thing that got me the most, was when a woman came up to me and asked me to sign her quilt. She had a quilt signed by legends like Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, the Oak Ridge Boys and so many other huge artists. I asked her if she really wanted me to sign it, and she insisted! It was such an unforgettable feeling. What a night!”
